The effects of dimethyl ether enriched air (DMEA) on exhaust pollutants and performance characteristics of an old generation diesel engine

In this study, the effect of dimethyl ether enriched air (DMEA) on pollutants and performance characteristics a diesel engine was evaluated. The combustion parameters have been evaluated by simulation method. Simulation results show that in-cylinder pressure increases slightly while duration is shorter for DMEA-engine compared to original case. addition, comparative test carried out, in which DME supplied into intake manifold at constant concentration mass air. that, when operating with DMEA, brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) reduces full load condition 2.20%. While, speed 1600 rpm, BSEC from 2.6% 7.7% low slides 3.1% 5.5% high condition. smoke level moderately DMEA 6.25% average 2.0% 8.2% as intermediate CO emission 5.28% NOx HC increase 5.62% 7.1% At 5.9% 27.5% average.
